Department of Mines and Geology
Organization and Manpower

The Department of Mines and Geology exercises her duties and responsibilities through three divisions namely Geo-Sciences, Mineral Resources and Technical and Administration Services. Four sub-divisions and 25 sections having specific functions are actively involved under the above divisions to achieve the goals of the organization. National Seismological Centre operates seismological centers and seismic stations in the country.

The present organization chart effective from 2057/3/27 B. S. constitutes the framework for the management of the department.

Currently the activities of the department cover five major fields of study.

  1. Geo-scientific Survey and Research
  2. Engineering and Environmental Geological Studies
  3. Seismo-tectonic Studies and Earthquake Monitoring
  4. Mineral Exploration, Evaluation and Promotion of Mineral based industries.
  5. Petroleum and Gas Exploration.

The DMG has a total manpower of 232 staff comprising of 157 technical and 75 non-technical personnel. The manpower strength of the key personnel in the different areas of technical expertise and profession are as follows:

i. Administrative Officers 5
ii. Chemist/Chemical Engineer/ Mechanical Engineer 13
iii. Geo-scientist 52
iv. Metallurgist 6
v. Mining Engineer 13
vi. Research Officer 1
vii Senior Surveyor, cartographer, documentation officer 3
